Coming in Fall 2023
In Memory of Sheryl Bendickson 1947-2022
Our modern lives depend on effective communication and information management for work, school, and even entertainment. It only takes the click of a button to contact someone across the country, but it hasn’t always been this way. Crucial developments in technology paved the way for where we are now. The Museum of Information Explosion (MIE) allows people to explore the history of communication and computing innovation and some of the major figures who helped us achieve our modern way of life.
We invite you to visit and learn more about the scientists, engineers, and business leaders who transformed our world. See extraordinary vintage telegraph sets, phonographs, radios, TVs, and more. Experience displays and multimedia presentations that bring the stories of yesterday to life.
The MIE welcomes curious minds of all ages! Older visitors will appreciate the nostalgia of exhibits that stir fond memories of early years. Our interactive, augmented, and virtual reality experiences will ignite the imagination of young adventurers. Every guest will leave with a deeper appreciation of the history of information technology and how it shapes our culture, business, and everyday activities. There is also special coverage of technological contributions from the Northern Alabama region.
Come experience:
- 15,000 square feet of exhibit space
- 20 exhibit domains highlighting key technological advancements
- 2,000 vintage and valuable artifacts
- Scores of hands-on experiments and digital adventures, and much more!
